Leeds United transfer update verdict on Everton-linked pair Crysencio Summerville and Jack Harrison shared by Phil Hay
Phil Hay expects Crysencio Summerville to leave Leeds United this summer and believes it’s likely that Jack Harrison follows.
The pair of Elland Road wingers are both linked to Everton moves during the window with talks held already for Harrison [Football Transfers, 18 June] and Summerville on the Toffees shortlist along with Feyenoord [Telegraph, 20 June].
But with Daniel Farke finally brought in as manager and transfer business now set to get under way Hay doesn’t expect incoming deals at the wide positions, with plenty of options at the club already and the German thought to largely get his width from the full-backs, while he does see outgoings on the cards.
As such, speaking on The Square Ball on Friday (7 July, 29m 5s) Hay said of potential signings in the wide positions: “They probably have largely what they need already.
“I think Summerville will leave. I think the odds probably say that Harrison will get an offer that Leeds had to take at some point. Perhaps not but that’s kind of how it feels it is.
“There are clubs looking at him like Everton and others. But [Willy] Gnonto’s there and Dan James will be back next week to train and could be involved this season. Could actually be quite handy in the Championship.”
Thinned out
If Farke is expected to set up in a way that utilises the full-backs more than out-and-out wingers then it seems inevitable that some are going to leave.
With the aforementioned names plus Luis Sinisterra all at Elland Road there probably isn’t space for everyone to get adequate game time in the new manager’s system even before relegation exits are accounted for.
Gnonto is probably the one that fans would like to see stay above all, although how possible that is going to be is apparently open to question.

Harrison has been targeted for Premier League moves at various points in recent months so it would be no surprise if he went now the Whites are in the second tier.
Summerville, like Gnonto, has age on his side and perhaps still has to develop his game yet so could be considered a candidate to remain for the promotion push.
But that appears unlikely and Everton are certainly eyeing an opportunity to pick up Elland Road departures, with an interest in Gnonto and Rodrigo as well.
Whether the Toffees are the ones to ultimately benefit on Summerville or Harrison remains to be seen but Hay certain doesn’t see much chance of them remaining at Elland Road next year.
In other Leeds United news, Everton believe they can now complete one of these deals for a “bargain fee” amid a surprising transfer update.
