Leeds United transfer update: Joe Gelhardt makes exit decision on January 1
Joe Gelhardt’s loan departure is currently the only expected January business at Leeds United with all parties keen on a move, according to Graham Smyth.
Gelhardt has found game time severely limited under Daniel Farke having played just nine minutes of football this season with an Elland Road exit looking inevitable in the transfer window.
Wrexham had been tipped as a potential destination for Gelhardt (Graeme Bailey) with Smyth sharing interest from England, Scotland and Belgium so far.
Leeds United cannot afford to refrain from January business
The Whites are enjoying an excellent campaign and depending on the results on New Year’s Day, they could find themselves five points clear at the summit of the Championship.
However, the teams around them will undoubtedly be looking to strengthen their hopes of pipping Leeds to the title and if the Whites don’t replicate that intent, they face the prospect of succumbing to that pressure.
Leeds need to showcase their ambition in the transfer window if they are to maintain their spot at the top and links to Emi Buendia at Aston Villa are the type of deal they need to chase (TEAMtalk).

The next few weeks will certainly paint a clearer picture of how the promotion race can unfold and much of that will hinge on January’s business.
If a departure for Gelhardt is to be the only business done, it would showcase a severe lack of ambition and perhaps a slight sense of arrogance if they don’t strengthen.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites could still sign Gus Hamer under one condition.
