Leeds United transfer update: ‘Insanely exciting’ Brenden Aaronson news confirmed Sunday – Sky Sports journalist

Brenden Aaronson’s loan exit from Leeds United to Union Berlin has been confirmed in what Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has branded an “insanely exciting transfer”.

The USMNT was the first man in last summer as part of a haul of players that were supposed to see the Whites kick on following a narrow escape from relegation, but is now one of the first back out again after the new squad failed to avoid the drop the second time around.

In a post on the Bundesliga side’s official Twitter account the 22-year-old said he was “really excited” and “going to give my all for the club” after he tied up a season-long loan that does not have a permanent option included.

Reacting to the confirmation via his own Twitter Sky Sports Germany journalist Plettenberg wrote: “Aaronson loan fixed.

“Insanely exciting transfer for FC Union and the Bundesliga… one can look forward to it!”

Disappointment

Aaronson may well get back to his best in Germany after shining for Red Bull Salzburg in neighbouring Austria, but while his arrival at Leeds United perhaps wasn’t quite up to the level of “insanely exciting” there certainly were high hopes for him at Elland Road.

A strong start to the campaign only served to increase the expectation that he could be a key man for the Whites in what was meant to be a much better season under compatriot Jesse Marsch.

That both are now gone, the club is in the second tier, and have just put a fourth new man in charge of the first team in that time shows how those plans ultimately went awry.

Leeds United

That there is no permanent option either suggests the club hope he can play himself back into form over the next year with a view to a sale that recoups more of his £24.7million fee [Sky Sports], or the unlikely prospect that they eye him having another crack at the Premier League if Daniel Farke can achieve promotion.

The former seems more likely, and hopes all round will be that he is able to fulfil hopes in Berlin to a greater degree than in West Yorkshire, even if fans will likely feel somewhat aggrieved if he suddenly turns it on again in the Bundesliga.

First-team departures are starting to go through, and there will be more to follow, but sooner rather than later Farke is going to need replacements to start coming the other way.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has been blown away by a “physically amazing” talent at the club who is now in line to make his first team debut under the new boss.
