Leeds United transfer update emerges on Sam Byram amid Junior Firpo injury woes

The chances of Leeds United signing Sam Byram permanently have increased as Junior Firpo remains out with an injury, claims Beren Cross.

According to the reliable LeedsLive journalist [28 July], a training programme that was designed specifically to get the 29-year-old Englishman fit has become a proper trial with there being decent chances of him staying beyond 1 September.

The full-back last featured for Leeds in 2016 and has since moved to West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Norwich City before returning to Thorp Arch.

Not the worst idea in the world

The 29-year-old has had injury issues in the past himself so signing him certainly will come with that caveat for Leeds.

However, they’ve already got Firpo, who’s not had a very good fitness record and neither have his performances on the field of play anything worth writing home about.

He’s struggled with the pace of the English game and maybe the Championship is at a level he thrives but signing Byram may not be the worst idea in the world.

For starters, he wouldn’t cost anything and is an academy product so the fans would quickly warm up to him.

Also, Daniel Farke’s been seeing how he trains day in and day out and if he deems him good enough as a squad player, then he’ll perhaps be signed.

The German is aware that while there is money to be spent, it’s not going to be a summer where Leeds break any Championship records for making the most expensive signings so this is something he may consider.

In other Leeds United news, an update has emerged on the club’s pursuit to sign two centre-backs this summer with a winger now on the radar as well.
