Leeds United transfer update emerges on quest to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz

Leeds United pursuit of Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz is reportedly not going to be an easy one.

The Whites desperately want to sign a number nine in January and have been linked with a move for the Chile international, 23.

However, due to Blackburn being in the hunt for promotion, they do not want to sell him this month.

Via Twitter, CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs wrote, “Yes, a striker is definitely needed. Still pretty quiet on that front. They explored Ben Brereton Díaz towards end of summer. But Blackburn pushing for promotion so January will be tough. Che Adams another to watch despite Southampton’s reluctance to sell.”

Keep pursuing

Pushing for promotion and actually attaining it are two different things and Diaz surely would prefer guaranteed Premier League football.

The fact that he can play out wide despite preferring to lead the line means that he can give this front four some much-needed fluidity.

Patrick Bamford prefers to stay within the width of the 18-yard area and seldom will you see him drifting to the flanks and trying to make things happen.

Diaz will do that and also run in behind defenders and offer a goal threat – something Jesse Marsch would thoroughly appreciate.

He’s been on the club’s radar for a while so Victor Orta and co surely will know about his strengths and weaknesses and also about the fact that he’s scored 31 league goals over the last season and a half.

Leeds certainly need to at least open preliminary talks with the Chilean to see where his head’s currently at as well as they cannot go another window without signing a striker.
