Leeds United transfer update emerges on Joe Rodon in Tottenham news

Leeds United may attempt to sign Joe Rodon on a permanent transfer this month before a “tussle” arises in the summer for the star centre-back, according to Football London.

The website reported [16 January] that there have been talks suggesting that the Whites may look to secure the Tottenham enforcer early at Elland Road.

It is understood, however, that the Whites may need to be patient with the signing of the Welshman, and wait until they know whether they will be playing Premier League football next season.

Grabbing his opportunity

Life at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been difficult since making the switch from Swansea City in 2020, being shunned by Antonio Conte before shipping him out to Rennes in Ligue 1.

However, Rodon has taken his opportunity at Leeds by the scruff of the neck this season, becoming one of Daniel Farke’s most trusted players and first names on the teamsheet.

The 26-year-old has made 25 appearances in all competitions, helping Leeds to a current fourth-place standing in the Championship, with a very real chance at Premier League promotion.

But, with his loan deal at Elland Road only valid until the end of the season, it will be vital for all parties for Rodon to secure a permanent move in West Yorkshire. Although he may want to prove himself at Tottenham, there is still little chance for him as Ange Postecoglou now has Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

With how well he has performed in the Championship so far, though, will come many potential suitors in the summer transfer window. Without the rewards from winning promotion to the Premier League, Rodon may be out of Leeds’ reach in terms of transfer fee.

If Leeds can get the deal done this month, they should. But if Spurs have been keeping a close eye, they will be unlikely to allow him to leave on a permanent deal.
