Leeds United transfer update as new director key to Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson exits

Leeds United midfielders Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson both look set to leave the club this summer, but the club’s appointment of a new director of football will be key, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Adams, 24, swiftly emerged as a crucial component for the Whites since his move from RB Leipzig last summer and is attracting Premier League interest, with Nottingham Forest interested in his services.

Aaronson also joined the Whites last summer in a high-profile switch from Red Bull Salzburg and is said to be exploring his options with a relegation clause being placed in his contract [Fabrizio Romano, 29 May] – now suggested to be £25m [90Min].

Former chief Victor Orta’s departure was confirmed on Tuesday 2 May and according to Romano, speaking to American media outlet CBS Sports [22 June], the appointment of a new director will be key to any sale.

Asked if he believes both players will leave Elland Road, the transfer guru said: “I think they will leave.

“The expectation for Adams is to look at an opportunity in the Premier League, some clubs are interested, Nottingham Forest are a big fan of his but there are also two or three more clubs asking for conditions to Leeds.

“And it’s also important to say that for Aaronson, there are some clubs in the Bundesliga and in Premier League but we have to wait and see who is going to be the new director at Leeds, this is a crucial point.

“They need a new director and a new manager to set the asking price and all these kinds of things when selling players.”

Sour blow

Indeed, in order for Leeds United to get their incomings and outgoings underway this summer, it is imperative the 49ers Enterprises build the foundations at the top of the club, starting with a new manager which is close to being sorted.

Leeds United were always bound to garner much interest from many of their key stars which has only been further compounded by their relegation to the Championship, giving the players a strong reason to seek pastures new.

In order for the Whites to get the best deals out of any potential sales, they will desperately need to appoint a director of football or technical director to sort those out, and an incredibly astute one too given Orta’s clear failures in the role.

Both Adams and Aaronson are highly-valuable and very marketable players right now, which means Leeds United should be set to attract the attention of plenty of European clubs for their signature.

It is a sour blow to lose them, but it is crucial Leeds get big money for these hugely marketable players, and that’s where a new manager and director will prove so key. Anything lower than £25m for either player should be classed as unacceptable.
