Leeds United transfer pursuit of Barcelona attacker Ilias Akhomach takes twist with Sevilla chief Monchi ready to pounce

Leeds United are reportedly uncertain in their pursuit of Barcelona attacker Ilias Akhomach which leaves Sevilla in a strong position.

According to Vamos Sevilla [04 May], sporting director Monchi is a fan of the 19-year-old and is ready to take advantage of Leeds’ current situation.

Victor Orta was understood to be a fan of the Spanish winger but his departure has left Akhmoach’s future up in the air.

Move on

Very few of Orta’s signings ever worked at Leeds and for them to break away from his era, it makes sense to distance themselves from players he wanted to sign.

Akhomach may be a talented player but he’s not an upgrade on Leeds’ current attacking options and would have to spend his time with the under-21s.

He would also command decent wages given the fact that some of Europe’s top sides were also being linked with him.

If Leeds are in the Championship, affording those kinds of wages for non first-team players will be hard and it’s best that they’re not pursuing him.

Right now, the focus for Sam Allardyce and the Whites needs to be on how to stay up and they can plan for life beyond May based on where they finish up in the table.

It’s also important for the club to get the right director of football in as Orta’s legacy has been marred mainly by failures with a few successes every now and then.
