Leeds United transfer now on cards for Cadiz defender Momo Mbaye

Leeds United are closely monitoring the progress of Cadiz central defender Momo Mbaye with a potential transfer now on the cards, according to Fichajes.net.

The Spanish outlet has reported on its website that numerous Premier League clubs including the Whites, Brighton and Southampton all have one eye on the 24-year-old.

Cadiz are currently said to be working on a contract extension for the defender, with his current deal in place until June of 2024 as he nears his final year.

Leeds have clear issues in their squad, but right now, it appears as though central defence is not one of those.

Liam Cooper and Robin Koch started against Liverpool in that famous victory over the weekend and were more than solid, with Pascal Struijk moved to left-back.

On top of that, there is Spain international Diego Llorente as a back-up and Charlie Cresswell to come back from his loan spell at Millwall this season.

Left-back is the main issue, but it would be exactly like Victor Orta to ignore that and look at other areas as he has done for many years at Elland Road.

Needed?

Unless there was to be outgoings in the summer with someone such as Llorente moving on, this would be a very pointless move to make at this moment in time.

Mbaye may have burst onto the scene like a freight train, but would he be guaranteed to start right now in the Premier League? Probably not given he’s only just popped up for Cadiz from the shadows.

Left-back and a new striker simply have to be the two priorities for Leeds, and both have been staring Orta in the face for years now, not just a few months.

With some of our stalwarts ageing such as Cooper and Luke Ayling though, change may be coming, and we know that there is always a long list of targets at Elland Road.

Orta is preparing, but before any of that happens, he needs to sort out the glaring issues of the here and now, rather than looking one or two years into the future.

Mbaye could be the answer, but not right now.
