Leeds United transfer news with messy situation on cards surrounding Wilfried Gnonto amid Everton links
Everton target and Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto asked to be omitted from the squad against Shrewsbury on Wednesday (9 August), per Beren Cross.
According to the LeedsLive journalist on Thursday (10 August), the situation surrounding his exit may get a tad messy.
The Athletic’s Phil Hay reported in July that the 19-year-old Italy international was on the Toffees’ radar and they’re still understood to be keen.
Via Twitter, Cross wrote, “Cup progress last night was overshadowed by a very busy day of transfer developments.
“A Gnonto exit was always a possibility this summer, but this is a narrative that could get messy quickly.”
Tough situation
Not seeing the Italian in the squad against Shrewsbury was a major surprise and then Daniel Farke all but confirmed he wanted to leave.
While he did not use so many words, it was very similar to what happened with Max Wober and he was not seen in a Leeds jersey after that.
It remains to be seen if Farke can convince Gnonto as he did play him in the season opener against Cardiff and this did not look like someone downing tools.
There have been a number of first-team players that have left, with the noteworthy ones being Rodrigo, Wober, Robin Koch, Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson.

He looked lively as ever and appeared to be happy to be at Leeds and help his side return to the Premier League.
The fact that there’s no relegation clause in his deal means that it’s a good scenario for the Whites and they can demand a high transfer fee for him.
He’s on a long-term deal so he cannot refuse to play ball and if his valuation isn’t met, he’ll probably be a Leeds player post September as well.
In other Leeds United news, the club could look to rekindle their interest in a Golden Boot winner who Daniel Farke will love and it will take £15million to get the deal done.
