Leeds United transfer news: Newcastle tipped for double ‘raid’ of Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson

Newcastle have been tipped to “raid” Leeds United to sign both Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson this summer, by Dean Jones.

The two Americans are likely to depart after the Whites were relegated to the Championship with 90min reporting on 30 May that the club had accepted they would probably lose the two arrivals from last summer.

USMNT captain Adams is thought to already be on the Magpies shortlist [Daily Mail, 9 June], while they are also said to admire his international teammate Aaronson [90min, 8 June], and Jones feels there will be a “temptation” at St. James’ Park to sign the pair.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT the former Eurosport journalist said: “I wouldn’t even rule out a double American raid from Newcastle because I think that there’ll be some temptation to look at Brenden Aaronson.

“Tyler Adams definitely fits one of the midfielder roles that they’re looking for as well.”

Unavoidable

Aaronson ultimately proved to be disappointing after his long-awaited arrival last summer, despite starting the season strongly under Jesse Marsch.

Adams turned out to be the more astute signing, and although the club would like to keep the latter especially for the Championship [The Athletic, 1 June] it is going to be very tough when Premier League clubs are after them.

With Newcastle having made huge strides since being backed by Saudi money, crucially qualifying for the Champions League, it is easy for them to sell players on such a prospect compared to the second tier.

If the two Elland Road men are going to go this summer all that Leeds United can do is attempt to get a strong fee after shelling out as much as £50million for the pair last summer.

Relegation will make it impossible to recoup all that money but with both having multiple years left on their contracts the Whites can’t let them go for next to nothing.

The squad is going to look very different next season, but after a campaign that was chaotic almost from start to finish that may not be such a bad thing.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay expects the club to offer one exit-bound ace less money to stay at Elland Road.
