Leeds United transfer news: ‘Serious’ Charlie Taylor from Burnley update emerges as Karl Darlow wanted after Ethan Ampadu

Leeds United are now “seriously” considering a move to bring Charlie Taylor back to the club from Burnley, according to Ben Jacobs.

The left-back infamously refused to play in the final game of his Whites career before leaving in 2017, according to then-manager Gary Monk [Sky Sports], which makes Dean Jones believe that there will be some supporters who aren’t happy to see the now 29-year-old return.

But with incoming signings finally on the cards as Ethan Ampadu closes in from Chelsea, and Karl Darlow targeted to solve the goalkeeping conundrum, Clarets defender Taylor is well in the frame to fill the problem position of left-back at Elland Road.

CBS journalist Jacobs told Football Fan Cast: “Charlie Taylor is one left back that they’ve been seriously considering, who’s done really well for Burnley.

“Karl Darlow in terms of a goalkeeper, is another player that has been on Leeds’ list and that shows that they will be able to move a little bit in the market despite the relegation.”

While former Eurosport man Jones said to GIVEMESPORT: “I’m not sure every Leeds fan will love him given the way he actually left the club previously.

“But if most can see that as water under the bridge, I think that he’ll start to fill a position that has been a major problem for them in recent years.”

Necessary

If Taylor is seen as the man to do the job for Leeds United then there would be little reason to get hung up on the controversy of six years ago.

The final game of that season against Wigan couldn’t affect the Whites’ final league position either way, and while the club is now back in the second tier it has come a long way since then.

Junior Firpo has proven not to be the answer in West Yorkshire, and it would be foolish to waste Max Wober at full-back or attempt to go through another season pushing Pascal Struijk into emergency action, assuming either are still here once the new campaign kicks off.

Taylor has just a year left on his contract at Turf Moor and could be available for a reasonable price, so if he is ready to sign up for a second stint at Elland Road and Daniel Farke sees the value in bringing him in it shouldn’t be a problem.

Answers are needed at keeper as well so if Darlow can be wrapped up from Newcastle that would put some minds at ease with Illan Meslier expected to depart before the window closes.

With a senior signing finally on the horizon in Ampadu, who should provide an encouraging part of the solution to the lack of midfield options, the new Farke era is starting to get under way, and it looks like both Taylor and Darlow also have a fair chance of being a part of it at this stage.

In other Leeds United news, talks continue with Everton as the departure of one of their many Elland Road targets is not dead.
