Leeds United transfer news: Newcastle have £80million to spend with Tyler Adams on list of targets amid Leicester star focus
Tyler Adams is on Newcastle’s “longer list” of targets this summer but they are currently focusing on Leicester star James Maddison rather than the Leeds United midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.
The Champions League qualifiers reportedly have a maximum summer budget of £80million unless they sell players, despite the Saudi-backed side now being one of the richest in world football, based on the “current FFP calculations” at St. James’ Park.
Adams, 24, is a player the Whites “desperately” want to keep as players leave Elland Road after relegation [The Athletic, 1 June], but is also reportedly attracting interest from the likes of Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest [The Athletic, 8 June].

According to the Mail report, the Foxes want £60million for Maddison, and while the Magpies also want Brighton’s Moises Caicedo he is considered too expensive at £80million.
Adams is among a group of other targets who are not currently the priority, including PSV’s Xavi Simons and Nice’s Khepran Thuram, with Conor Gallagher and Scott McTominay’s asking prices at Chelsea and Manchester United respectively considered too high.
Aware
If Leeds United are hoping to keep Adams for next season they are going to need numerous other midfield targets to move this summer and take up his potential landing spots.
Should Newcastle land Maddison for £60million there may be scope for them to pick up the Whites ace for the remaining portion of their transfer budget.
It would bring in the full amount paid to RB Leipzig a year ago to bring the USMNT captain to Elland Road [Guardian], and for accounting purposes would represent a profit after a year’s amortisation.

But much will surely depend on what his preference is, as it would be risky to keep a player in the second tier against his will if he has options to get back to the Premier League immediately.
However, should he be sold on the idea of being a central figure in the push for promotion it would put Leeds in stronger position to turn down offers.
It sounds like a number of chips will have to fall in a specific order for Newcastle to become a real contender for his signature, so plenty of Whites fans will be hoping the same of the situations at Forest and Villa if they are to keep hold of arguably the best central midfielder the club currently has.
In other Leeds United news, another member of the first team is now closing in on a loan exit as the summer departures look set to begin.
