Leeds United transfer news: Medical update in quest to sign Burnley defender Connor Roberts

Burnley defender Connor Roberts has completed his medical and Leeds United are on the cusp of announcing his signing, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS Sports journalist told Give Me Sport on 1 February that he’s been a top target whom the Whites have wanted for a while.

Given Luke Ayling and Djed Spence’s departures, it was imperative for the Whites to sign a right-back.

Jacobs said: “Leeds United have been very busy in the closing few hours of the window. Connor Roberts has completed his medical and is about to join from Burnley – a top target that Leeds had wanted for the last couple of weeks of the window. There was a need to bring in a fullback and Roberts fits the bill.”

Good move?

Leeds left it super late in the window but look to finally be getting hold of the defender they wanted to sign.

There were quite a few names thrown into the mix initially, but it seems like Roberts was the one Daniel Farke was keen to bring in.

How he fares under the German is anyone’s guess but the expectation is that he will be a first-team regular from here on in.

He will not be leaving Burnley for a Championship club if he wasn’t promised regular minutes and it’s also much more fun to be in a promotion race rather than a relegation battle.

Jamie Shackleton and Archie Gray have been used at right-back this season and they’re not specialists in that position even though they’ve not been too bad.
