Leeds United transfer news: Leicester City stance on Harry Souttar revealed on Deadline Day
Leicester City do not want to sell Harry Souttar to a promotion rival which is why Leeds United are not going to sign him, according to Rob Dorsett.
The Sky Sports journalist claimed on 1 February that the Foxes do not want to improve a team fighting for the top two spots.
The Australia centre-back is on international duty and a move to Elland Road now appears to be off despite Sky Sports reporting that an enquiry had been made for the 25-year-old.
Dorsett wrote on Twitter: “Stefani Sensi expected at #lcfc shortly to complete medical and move from #inter. Seems Leic prepared to do deal without being sure of more outgoings. Could cost £2m. Souttar to #lufc not happening because Leicester don’t want to improve a promotion rival.”
Bizarre
For starters, Leicester are so far clear from the rest of the pack that they may have their promotion confirmed by late March or early April.
As things stand, they are 11 points clear of third place and are on a terrific run under Enzo Maresca this season.
Also, Leeds are looking for a right-back so the links to Souttar seem baffling, to say the least.
Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk have both performed incredibly well at centre-back and in their absence, Liam Cooper has been there to fill in.
Ethan Ampadu, who’s played in midfield this season, is also capable of playing as a centre-back so it makes no sense to sign another one.
Had they gone for a backup number 10 then it would make sense as nobody apart from Joel Piroe seems a natural fit there.
Also, with Junior Firpo staying put at the club, the need to sign a left-back is no longer a priority.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now move fast to sign a West Ham defender with just a few negotiation points left to iron out.
