Leeds United transfer news: ‘I would love to see’ Tyler Adams complete move to Aston Villa – Alexi Lalas

Tyler Adams’ prospective Leeds United exit to Aston Villa has received wholehearted backing from former US international Alexi Lalas who says it is a move he would “love to see”.

The American international captain is one of the key men that the new 49ers regime would equally love to keep at Elland Road for a promotion push in the Championship [The Athletic, 1 June].

But his compatriot doesn’t want the 24-year-old to be playing in the second tier and amid strong links to a Villa Park move [The Athletic, 23 June], among various interested clubs, Lalas is delighted by the prospect of Adams joining Unai Emery’s men.

Lalas said on his State of the Union podcast (27 June, 44m 20s): “I don’t want to see Tyler Adams play in the Championship, do you? No, right?

“Certainly of the trio of Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams is I think the most valuable and did himself the best in terms of the way he is viewed.

“So I would love to see this [Villa move], and I would put Tyler Adams up against anybody.”

Loss

If he is to go it will leave a big gap to fill, especially with Weston McKennie gone and Marc Roca also on his way out, but Adams is the one above all who will be missed.

Adam Forshaw’s future is yet to be confirmed so once the new manager is finally announced central midfield is going to undoubtedly be one of the priorities in the transfer market.

Villa will likely have their work cut out to secure the Elland Road man, not only in terms of convincing the Whites to part with him but winning the race if he does leave amid suggestions they could soon be overtaken.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Leeds United will be relatively powerless to prevent the exits of various players, with a number of loans lining up thanks to reported clauses in their contracts following relegation [Daily Mail, 26 June].

But the indications are that they will put up a fight with Adams, even if their hopes of success in that endeavour so seem fairly slim.

Lalas appears to be one who will be disappointed if he stays at Elland Road, as plenty of American fans might be, but it would certainly be a boost for the incoming boss, thought to be Daniel Farke, if it can be done.

In other Leeds United news, a major talent in the Whites ranks is surprisingly set to join the exodus this summer after the club green-lit a loan.
