Leeds United transfer news: ‘Highly significant’ Crysencio Summerville update as Everton, Bournemouth and Burnley eye star

Crysencio Summerville “really likes” Leeds United and has a “very strong” relationship with Daniel Farke so an exit to the Premier League in January is “by no means guaranteed, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS journalist told GiveMeSport (30 October) that despite Everton, Burnley and Bournemouth all having looked at the Dutch winger it is “highly significant” that the he has so far felt Elland Road was the best place for him, in contrast to friend and teammate Willy Gnonto.

Jacobs says Summerville’s situation is “very different” to that of the Italian who tried to force a move in the summer, and feels the Whites should remain in control of matters come the January window.

Jacobs said: “A January exit is by no means guaranteed because he is integral to Leeds at the moment. Naturally, there’s going to be interest, as there was over the summer. Everton, Bournemouth and Burnley, for example, have all looked at the player.

“But it’s a very different situation to Wilfried Gnonto, who ended up staying but tried to force his way out of the club and then eventually apologised to Daniel Farke. Angus Kinnear, Leeds’ chief executive, played a big role in smoothing that situation over.

“With Summerville, he was a model professional and has a very strong relationship with Farke. In many ways, it was the player himself that wanted to stay at Leeds last summer, rather than drive an exit.

“That is highly significant in all of this because Summerville really likes Leeds and is settled at Leeds. He felt, over the summer, that Leeds was the best place for him to be, which means that Leeds have got a bit more control over this one than with Gnonto.”

The summer will have taught Daniel Farke and Leeds United not to bank on any assumptions that a player will want to stay at Elland Road, but Summerville’s actions so far suggest it is likely.

If he continues in the same way he has been playing recently it could tempt teams higher up the Premier League to come calling and that might change the situation.

But if he didn’t push to leave in the summer and has duly established himself as a key man in Farke’s side then there is reason to believe that this was all part of the plan and he might be expecting to see it through.

It also probably hasn’t gone unnoticed that Gnonto, presumed to be one of the stars of the Whites side in the second tier this term, has seen his influence wane since his failed attempt to leave.

That might change over the course of the season but for now it does look like the players who, as far as we know, were more invested from the off are benefiting.

Just as in the summer all bets are off in January, especially as the deadline approaches, but Farke is bound to want to keep his squad together as much as possible and it sounds like the chances of doing so with Summerville are pretty high.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been said to have the cards in their favour when it comes to another star man being snapped up midseason, according to Adam Pope.
