Leeds United transfer news as Wilfried Gnonto move wanted at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have joined Everton in the race to sign Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds United, according to Rahman Osman.

The London World journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account (15 August), reports that Spurs are keeping an eye on Gnonto’s situation at Elland Road, but Everton are the frontrunners to seal his signature.

Jacque Talbot shared on Twitter on Monday night (14 August) that the Italian international is pushing to leave the club with an expectation that Leeds will lower their price demands for the forward.

And according to Osman, Spurs aren’t too behind Everton in the chase to sign the 20-year-old and he wants to leave the club as soon as possible.

Potential bidding war

When it all seemed like Everton were the only Premier League club to make a move for Gnonto, yet another new English top-flight club has entered the frame as expected.

Tottenham joining the race to sign Gnonto could spell good news for Leeds United as the North London outfit are fresh from losing Harry Kane for a fee of around £95m so will certainly have money to splash.

Leeds United

It remains to be seen which Gnonto will choose out of the two clubs, although many neutrals could guess he’d go for Spurs given their better standing in the Premier League, however, Gnonto has expressed his Everton desire recently which certainly suggests the Blues are leading the chase.

While Leeds United will want to get Gnonto’s exit wrapped up pretty quickly, the Whites can benefit from a potential bidding war and even sell to the highest bidder.

What’s crucial is that Leeds United cannot allow this to drag on too long as Daniel Farke looks to strengthen his greatly depleted squad right now.

In other Leeds news, another Premier League club have agreed to trigger the release clause of one key Elland Road figure.
