Leeds United transfer news as Tyler Roberts medical set ahead of exit

Leeds United striker Tyler Roberts is now set for his Birmingham City medical after the two clubs agreed a fee on Monday [19 June], according to the Daily Mail.

The Welsh international, who temporarily swapped Elland Road for Queens Park Rangers this season, featured 20 times for the West London outfit, scoring four goals but is now looking to move elsewhere.

Athletic journalist Phil Hay revealed on 15 June that the 24-year-old will be leaving Elland Road permanently, with a report in the Daily Mail newspaper [19 June, page 63] revealing that the Welsh international looks to finalise his St Andrews’ transfer on Monday.

And it’s now been reported that a fee of around £500,000 with add-ons has been agreed between the two parties, with Roberts’ medical at St Andrew’s on Monday [19 June] ahead of his move.

New lease of life

There was a time when Roberts was one of Leeds United’s most important players under former boss Marcelo Bielsa and the serious favourite of the revolutionary coach. How big a difference a couple of years in football makes.

Roberts has endured a frustrating couple of years, ravaged by injuries countless times throughout his career. It was because of his constant injury troubles that affected his form and confidence in a Leeds United shirt, stopping him from performing at a high level regularly.

At times during his latter appearances at Elland Road, he looked a man spent, beaten and in need of a new lease of life elsewhere. Roberts even looked to kick things off steadily at Queens Park Rangers last season, but for another worrying injury setback, he simply could not build on a promising start in West London.

The 24-year-old has clearly needed a fresh start elsewhere and hopefully, he can get that at Birmingham City who are desperate for a striker this summer and certainly possess the kind of platform for a player wanting to rejuvenate themselves again.

Who knows, the Elland Road favourite may well prove a chink in the Whites’ Championship aspirations next season, it’s all written in the footballing script, isn’t it?

In other Leeds United news, a far more popular first-team ace could be set to follow Junior Firpo out of the club amid new talks with an English club.
