Leeds United transfer news as talks opened to sign Brighton midfielder Facundo Buonanotte

Leeds United have opened talks to secure the services of Brighton attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte, according to Victor Bilsky.

The Argentine media outlet APF Radio journalist reported on his Twitter account on Monday (21 August) that a loan move with the option to buy is being discussed.

The 18-year-old Argentina international moved to the Amex Stadium in January 2023 and became a member of the first-team squad a few weeks later.

Bilsky wrote, “The words of De Zerbi cleared up doubts about the future of many youth players who are leaving and, in this case, Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton would be another of those on loan: with a purchase option to Leeds, who has already started talks for the former Rosario Central player.”

Worth considering

Buonanotte is yet another South American gem that Brighton have unearthed but he’s not yet a first-team regular there.

If the 18-year-old is getting regular game time at Leeds, the Seagulls are unlikely to come in the way of his progression.

At 18, he’s already made his Argentina debut which shows just how good he is for his age and he’ll be an important signing for Leeds.

Apart from playing in midfield, he can also be deployed out wide and can pop up with the odd goal too – making him a threat in the final third.

Signing him on loan will be a low-risk move from Leeds and it makes sense to consider bringing him to Elland Road this summer.

Given the midfield exodus, Daniel Farke is desperately short on bodies in that area of the pitch and desperately needs reinforcements.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites need to table a ‘Convincing’ bid to sign a striker as EFL rivals’ stance emerges on his sale this summer.
