Leeds United are already locked in talks with Newcastle to sign Karl Darlow this summer, according to Sky Sports.

It has been reported that the battle is underway with Bournemouth for the goalkeeper, with a permanent deal likely to be agreed with one of the clubs.

Leeds are said to have big wages on offer, so much so that fellow Championship side Middlesbrough have been forced to drop out of the race, it seems.

Sky Sports shared the news on their live blog [03 July, 14:42] with Newcastle set to receive a fee for the goalkeeper who looks set to move on.

Darlow dropped down to third choice at St James' Park after the signings of Nick Pope and Loris Karius with Eddie Howe seemingly happy with his options.

Needed.

Leeds could soon be very light on options between the sticks.

Joel Robles was offered the chance to return to pre-season but without a playing contract as things stand, and Illan Meslier looks ready to move on as soon as the first bid comes in.

That leaves Kristoffer Klaesson and Dani van den Heuvel, both very inexperienced for what promises to be a gruelling Championship season.

Darlow is perfect and he will need to ask himself whether he wants to be number one every week at Elland Road or continue to sit on the bench in the Premier League behind Neto at Bournemouth.

Given he left St James' Park to go on loan to Hull City last season, it looks as though he is desperate to be playing every week, and where better to do that than Elland Road?

Leeds could have a very young squad next season, so bringing in some more experienced heads to surround them in key positions, could be vital to any promotion hopes.
