Leeds United transfer news as restless Wilfried Gnonto claim made amid Everton links

Dean Jones has delivered a claim over Everton target Wilfried Gnonto’s future as Leeds United begin their Championship campaign next weekend.

The former Eurosport journalist told Give Me Sport [30 July] that the Italy international wants to leave and may get restless.

The report cites Everton showing an interest in signing the 19-year-old as they’re keen on bringing in a goal-scoring attacker capable of playing out wide and have already seen a bid rejected. [MailOnline]

Jones said, “At the moment, it’s not impossible they both stay, but we will have to see if that remains the case as we get towards the start of the season and other clubs realise these two are still up for grabs.

“I hear that Gnonto wants to leave, I think he’ll get a bit restless if he’s playing in the Championship when it kicks off. So, let’s see how it all develops.”

Meet his valuation

Gnonto can get restless all he wants but he knows that every player has a price and if clubs do not meet what his is then he will stay at Elland Road.

Leeds have also rather been unlucky with the number of players that have left on loan as there was not much they could do to stop them.

Relegation clauses kicked in which allowed certain players to seal their exits and that gave Daniel Farke some problems to deal with.

He expected Max Wober to stay put at the club but an offer from Borussia Monchengladbach was perhaps too good to turn down.

A new centre-back is needed soon and he would also want to retain the services of Gnonto this summer.

It remains to be seen where the conversations with the Italian lead to but fans would also want to see him at the club next season.

In other Leeds United news, an update has emerged on the club’s pursuit to sign two centre-backs this summer with a winger now on the radar as well.
