Leeds United transfer news as phone call made amid pursuit of Liverpool defender Nat Phillips

Leeds United reportedly appear to be intensifying their pursuit of Liverpool defender Nat Phillips this summer after relegation.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post [29 June], while a new manager is yet to be appointed, the Whites have been active on the recruitment front.

Phone calls have been made to agents of a number of players, with the Reds centre-back’s representative being among them.

Good move

The 26-year-old is struggling for game time at Anfield and understandably so, given the quality Jurgen Klopp has within his ranks.

With quality players in every position and good depth as well, especially in defence, Phillips has fallen down the pecking order at the club.

He was sent out on loan to Bournemouth in the season they got promoted to the Premier League and put in a good performance there.

There’s no reason to think why he cannot do the same thing at Leeds and this is actually a signing that makes sense for them.

He’s got Premier League and Championship experience so the pace and physical nature of the game will not take him by surprise.

He’s still only 26 and will only get better with time so he can be considered as one for the long term in the top flight as well.

In other Leeds United news, the club have been handed a boost to sign a Manchester United player this summer with Erik ten Hag likely to sanction his exit.
