Leeds United transfer news as Phil Hay shares Joe Gelhardt stance

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has shared Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt’s current stance on leaving the club, reporting that the decision will ultimately lie with him.

Gelhardt is clearly a man in demand if Hay’s words are anything to go by and he’d be a massive asset to whatever team he chooses to join the ranks of.

Hay reported that the forward has “loads” of attention from the Championship, with the project at his former side Wigan, in particular, being to Gelhardt’s fancy.

“Loads of Championship interest in Gelhardt but he’s very familiar with Wigan,” said Hay on his personal Twitter account. (19 January, 1:25 PM)

“Likes the set-up there and wants to pitch into their relegation fight. His choice.”

Dogfight.

A Championship relegation dogfight with Wigan might actually be a decent option for the youngster and it could do Gelhardt more good than a move to a team further up the league.

It’s always nice to see a player potentially opting for a less fashionable switch to the club that made him the player he is today and the youngster would be a real asset to Wigan.

Just imagine if Gelhardt makes the Wigan switch and helps them to avoid relegation. The confidence that would give the striker would do wonders for his future.

An act of loyalty that goes missing far too often in the modern game, something that Gelhardt deserves praise for should he make the switch.

He’s not been given a real chance under Jesse Marsch so why not make the move? He’s at a pivotal point in his career and deserves some minutes on the pitch.
