Leeds United transfer news as Phil Hay shares four moves they want to make at Elland Road

Phil Hay has named four areas in which Leeds United want to strengthen this summer.

The Whites are currently involved in another relegation battle, with the club sitting 18th in the table with just two matches remaining.

Regardless of where Leeds finish this season, Hay believes there are four key areas in which the Yorkshire outfit need to improve, with a new striker on the cards.

“They are heading for a takeover but only if they avoid relegation, so that creates more uncertainty about the direction they will take,” Hay wrote for The Athletic.

“Leeds have to face up to issues on both flanks of their defence, and the focus on Patrick Bamford over the past fortnight has again highlighted the fact that they simply do not have the resources they need at number nine. The midfield also lacks the correct depth and balance, despite the additions made to it over the past 12 months.

“You suspect too that however the season finishes, we might be looking at a change on the goalkeeping front over the summer.

“Targets: Goalkeeper, left-back, central midfielder, striker.”

Busy summer ahead

The Whites will definitely be delving into the transfer market this summer, regardless of whether they will be playing Premier League or Championship football next season.

The recruitment strategy clearly hasn’t been working in recent times, and that situation hasn’t been resolved just yet given that there is no director of football at the club.

And on the other side of the coin, the Whites could be set to lose several senior stars who will want to get as far away from Elland Road as possible.
All potential dealings are, however, on hold right now as takeover and relegation talk continues, with the main focus on staying in the division.

There are plenty of issues behind the scenes, but a real serenity could be brought to Elland Road should the Whites avoid the drop.

If that isn’t the case, who knows exactly how much chaos will unfold in the coming months, with plenty of movement to be expected in both directions.

In other Leeds United news, one journalist believes it would be a “stunning development” at this point if Cody Drameh stayed at the club after being denied first-team opportunities.
