Leeds United transfer news as Phil Hay reveals Nadiem Amiri plans

Leeds United quietly planned to fly in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri to advance with their transfer talks, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist revealed on Friday (25 August) that he is not going to Ligue 1 and a move to England might be on the cards.

A fee agreement has been reached between the two clubs and it’s now down to whether or not personal terms are agreed.

Speaking on the Square Ball, Hay said at 17:16 “I spoke to someone in Germany and he said, ‘He wants to go to Marseille’. Then there was a report which said he said no to Leeds and he’s going to Marseille.

“I think that was accurate. The indication was that was the move he wanted to take. That has shifted in the last 24 hours and Leeds have agreed a fee with Leverkusen which is roundabout 5million.

“They were quietly hoping to get him on a plane some time on Friday morning to push this forward. There was a bit of quiet confidence that this one might materialise.”

Get it done

Leeds surely will want to get this one done as there seem to be a lot of clubs that are keen on signing him.

The fact that they are a second-tier club will make things extremely hard for them to pull off these kinds of deals.

They attracted some top names when they were in the Premier League and for Championship standards, Amiri is as good as it gets.

Leeds United

Hopefully, no other club sways his mind and a move can be agreed upon sooner rather than later in the next few days.

The window is closing soon so it’s important they act quickly as deals can be hijacked by clubs at any time.

If at the last minute, a club is willing to offer Champions League football along with higher wages, he may end up moving there.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have now emerged as favourites to sign a Premier League player likened to Lionel Messi.
