Leeds United transfer news as Phil Hay drops update on Burnley left back Charlie Taylor
Leeds United want to sign Burnley defender Charlie Taylor ahead of the 11 pm deadline on September 1 but will not succeed in their pursuit, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist claimed that the Whites have tried to sign the 29-year-old over the past few days, but the Premier League outfit have not yet shown an inclination to sell.
However, Hay suggests that things can change in the final days of the transfer window.
He told the Square Ball at 36:02, “They like Charlie Taylor and despite what they’ve tried with Taylor and the question being asked of Burnley, Burnley haven’t really shown any inkling or any intention of letting him go. But of course, this is the part of the window where things change rapidly and players themselves start to say, ‘I’m not going to play. I kind of need to go.
He then continued at 47:47, “Taylor they’ll take but they can’t get.”
Need a left-back
Leeds are obviously not going to get every player they want so they’ve got to have alternative options ready in the transfer window.
They cannot try to sign Taylor days before the deadline and then failure to get him ends their quest to sign a new left-back.
Both Sam Byram and Junior Firpo cannot be relied on to be their first-choice options all season and an upgrade is needed there.

Cody Drameh, who has played in that position every once in a while, appears set to be leaving the club on loan before the deadline.
Taylor would be a decent fit and Hay makes a very good point about players wanting game time.
Rather than being a backup at Burnley, a club that could very well be relegated and back in the Championship, he can play for a side a division lower that will compete for the title and look to win every game.
In other Leeds United news, agents and personal terms update has emerged as the Whites have agreed a fee for another new signing.
