Leeds United transfer news as new £15m exit twist emerges in race to sign Joel Piroe

Leeds United transfer target Joel Piroe is now expected to stay in Swansea after a new £15m exit twist, according to Wales Online.

According to the report (30 July), the Dutchman has already indicated he has no interest in staying in Wales and is attracting plenty of interest from Leeds United and Southampton (Last Word On Sports, 29 July).

However, in a fresh new twist, Piroe is now expected to remain at the club with his £15m price tag proving to be a sticking point to securing a sale this summer with his contract only having a year to run.

It is believed that Swansea could yet accept a bid for the forward, but unless they are willing to structure a sale that satisfies Piroe’s camp, a move away from the club now seems unlikely.

Blow

The Whites have already been busy in the summer transfer window completing the signings of Ethan Ampadu and Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Chelsea in a £7m deal, and a potential striker signing will also be high on Daniel Farke’s recruitment agenda.

Piroe, following his two stunning 44-goal campaigns in the Championship certainly seemed the ideal and perfect component for Daniel Farke in Leeds United’s quest to secure promotion given his excellent finishing abilities.

Leeds United

The 23-year-old swiftly became one of the Championship’s most ruthless finishers over the past two campaigns, notching 20 goals from 45 appearances last season after hitting 24 goals the previous term marking him out as the ideal candidate to lead Leeds United forward next season.

However, according to the report, Swansea City’s £15m price tag is proving to be a problem after they initially agreed on an exit route for the Dutchman with former chief executive Julian Winter.

A club may return with a bid for the forward in the near future and Piroe’s desire to leave the club and seek pastures new seems clear.

Leeds United mustn’t allow this new development to be a stumbling block as Piroe could prove the telling difference in their quest to secure promotion.
