Leeds United transfer news as Michael Keane wanted in January

Leeds United have shown an interest to sign wantaway Everton defender Michael Keane this month, according to TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

Keane was left in limbo at Goodison Park after being frozen out of action by former Blues boss Frank Lampard, who was officially sacked on 23 January.

The report claims that West Ham United and Southampton were also interested in signing Keane, whose future on Merseyside still remains unclear.

“Frank Lampard’s Everton exit could help Michael Keane revive his Goodison Park career,” as quoted by TalkSPORT. (23 January)

“Keane was in limbo under Lampard after being blocked from leaving despite being frozen out and playing just one Premier League game this season.

“The former England defender has had January interest from West Ham, Leeds and Southampton but Everton are reluctant to let him join a Premier League rival.

“It remains to be seen if that stance will change or if Keane will be welcomed back into the fold by Lampard’s successor, with Marcelo Bielsa among the leading candidates.”

No thank you.

Leeds United certainly have some defensive issues of their own but making a move for Keane in January would have been a bizarre move.

Keane is way past his best playing days and the fact he can’t get into a struggling and woeful Everton side says just about all you need to know.

The signing of Max Wober likely stopped this move from taking place and fortunately for the Whites, they look like they have had a lucky escape in this one.

Wober looked every inch the top signing Leeds United fans thought they had signed against Brentford and hopefully, he can add more clean sheets to his name in the coming weeks.

Signing a defender of Wober’s calibre was an absolute must in the January transfer window for Leeds and it’s nice that Victor Orta and co followed through with their promises this time around.

There may even still be a few more signings at the club this month in what has been an eventful and promising window at Elland Road.
