Leeds United transfer news as Liverpool defender Nat Phillips wanted

Leeds United are interested in signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips who is expected to depart Anfield this summer, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

Phillips made only five appearances for the Reds last season but has Championship experience which the Whites are searching for this summer, having helped Bournemouth to Premier League promotion in the 2021/22 campaign.

According to the report [27 June], Leeds want to sign the 26-year-old irrespective of their head coach and sporting director appointments with top manager target Daniel Farke a former admirer of Phillips.

The report also claims that Liverpool are willing sellers at around £10m, who is under contract at Anfield until 2025.

Sensible move

Leeds United will lose several of their key first-team stars next season, especially at centre-back with Diego Llorente and Robin Koch destined to leave Elland Road before the new campaign.

In fact, the Whites could lose up to eleven players, which could severely deplete their squad before preseason kicks off in July, and it is absolutely imperative Leeds United identify potential targets to replace those players.

Phillips represents a smart piece of business given his experience both in the Premier League and in the Championship.

With the Whites desperate for an immediate English top-flight return, they will need players who have the experience to achieve it and the 26-year-old is the perfect candidate to bolster a potentially depleted Leeds squad.

Also, should Farke become manager at Elland Road, it is a move which could set things up nicely with the former Norwich City manager previously interested in signing him at Carrow Road when they were promoted. Phillips is a player certainly ready to come in immediately and make a swift impact when Leeds United need it most.

Get this deal over the line.
