Leeds United transfer news as Karl Darlow spotted at Elland Road to complete move

Leeds United are close to their next summer signing, with Karl Darlow spotted at Elland Road as he gets set to complete his move, as pictured by L on Twitter.

The Newcastle United goalkeeper had been touted to arrive in Yorkshire on Friday 28 July, with Eddie Howe confirming that he would be leaving the USA to complete his medical and he has been seen by fans at Elland Road.

Stood outside the Leeds United ground, the 6ft 2 stopper was quite easy to spot as he was shown around his new home ground late in the evening, leaving one to imagine an announcement will be arriving soon, as the £400,000 deal is near [Keith Downie].

Taking to Twitter, the Leeds fan posted the photo with the caption, “Here he is Leeds United fans. Next signing through the door. Who’s next?”

Darlow will be the Whites’ second summer signing after Ethan Ampadu joined Daniel Farke’s ranks from Chelsea, but it remains clear that the fans at Elland Road believe more work will have to be done this summer for Leeds to be competing at the right end of the table.

Building blocks in place

Every successful side needs a consistent number one behind their defence and whether or not that ends up being Darlow or Illian Meslier, Leeds United will now feel that they are equipped with a good enough stopper to fight at the top end of the Championship.

It remains to be seen if Meslier will remain at Elland Road beyond the 31st of August as well as who will don the number one shirt for the first game of the campaign against Cardiff City in a week’s time, but there is now some sort of contingency plan.

Had the Frenchman departed before Darlow had arrived in Yorkshire, the goalkeeping department would’ve had looked rather light, with the only other senior keeper being Kristoffer Klaesesson, who isn’t yet ready to be a Championship first choice.

Darlow instead brings with him a wealth of Championship experience while also still being in a keeper’s prime, as displayed by his performances in a Hull City shirt last season. It is only a small part of the work needed to be done by Farke this summer, but it is a crucial step in the right direction.

Now it’s just time to wait for the official announcement to land.
