Leeds United transfer news as journalist shares ‘hunch’ on Crysencio Summerville
Dean Jones has offered his verdict on Crysencio Summerville’s future at Leeds United, suggesting he expects the winger to remain at Elland Road for the remainder of the season.
The Dutchman scored his 11th Championship goal of the season in the Whites’ 1-1 draw with Coventry City on Saturday 16 December, but there has been plenty of speculation surrounding his future in the run-up to the transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that there are many clubs following Summerville’s situation ahead of the January window [Daily Briefing, 2 November], but Jones believes it is likely that he will still be a Leeds player come February.

As quoted by Give Me Sport (16 December) he said: “My hunch is that he stays for the rest of this season because I think you can start to sense that this could be a good moment for Leeds and his goal involvement since October has been outstanding.
“I think he’ll be feeling unstoppable too at the moment, which sometimes you wonder if that’s something you want to try and hold on to because if you can get to the end of the season in that good form, you might get even bigger opportunities to come if you are to look for a transfer.
“Or you might even be looking at playing in the Premier League with Leeds again. Let’s wait and see, but I think Leeds will be okay for the time being.”
Good news
When a player is performing as well as Summerville is at a club with as big a profile in English football as Leeds United, it is only natural that top-flight teams will have taken note and will hold an interest in his signature.
Since the start of October, Summerville has been one of the Championship’s best players, if not the best and teams in the Premier League and beyond will certainly be eager to add him to their ranks when the transfer window opens once again.

But the guarantee of regular first-team football at Elland Road and the potential of maybe being back in the Premier League next season if Daniel Farke can guide the Whites to promotion should be enough to keep the Dutchman in Yorkshire at least until the end of the season.
If Leeds were to lose the 22-year-old midway through the campaign it would put a huge dent in their automatic promotion hopes. Everyone at Elland Road will likely be working around the clock to turn down any interest when January rolls around.
