Leeds United transfer news as Ilia Gruev excused from training after approach
Ilia Gruev has been excused from training with Werder Bremen after Leeds United made an approach to sign him this week, according to Ryan Taylor.
The Daily Express journalist provided an update via Twitter (30 August), reporting that the 23-year-old was absent from training following an approach from the Whites, which was reported by Phil Hay via The Athletic (30 August).
Ajax are also interested in the Bulgaria international although talks are now beginning to progress between Leeds and the Bundesliga outfit.
Pressure
Ajax also being interested in Gruev demonstrates to supporters at Elland Road the quality of player they could have on their hands. It also means that they will need to act fast and efficiently in negotiations because if the Dutch giants choose to make an approach, the player might potentially have his head turned due to the size and stature of the club.
This could be a positive thing though as officials at Leeds will now know that they have no time to waste as they face competition for the player’s signature and a race against time with Friday’s transfer deadline looming large. With these factors taken into account, it will make them more lenient in negotiations and increase the likelihood of a deal getting done.

In addition to this, the fact that Gruev has already been excused from training suggests his current side are open to selling. Overall, plenty of signs pointing in the right direction regarding these negotiations.
In other Leeds United news, Hay has suggested that a deal for another midfielder is now dead.
