Leeds United transfer news as Ian Poveda has played final game at Elland Road

Sheffield United have beaten Birmingham City in the race to secure the services of Leeds United attacker Ian Poveda, according to BBC’s Adam Pope.

TEAMtalk’s James Marshment claimed on 1 February that the 23-year-old has played his final game for the Whites.

He will move to Wednesday not on a loan move, but a permanent deal on transfer Deadline Day.

Via Twitter, Marshment wrote: “Leeds winger Ian Poveda will join Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent deal – he’s played his last game for the Whites. Never quite replicated those early weeks in the Prem under Bielsa.”

Hard luck

Poveda has been a youngster who dazzled fans and many believed that he could be the next big thing at Elland Road.

However, that did not happen and despite showing promise under someone like Marcelo Bielsa – who’s extremely methodical, he failed to take his game to the next level.

Poveda had loan spells away from Leeds where the pressure wasn’t that much and even there, he did not really do too well.

Daniel Farke used him sparingly but obviously, given the riches of attacking talent available to him, he did not give him too much game time.

Fans will undoubtedly be keeping tabs on Poveda’s career as he’s still to hit his prime and could do with a fresh start at Wednesday.

Whenever he returns to Elland Road, he will be greeted with a rapturous ovation by the fans as they have been there for when he made his debut and showed unbelievable talent.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now move fast to sign a West Ham defender with just a few negotiation points left to iron out.
