Leeds United transfer news as FFP claim emerges on Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer

Aston Villa are open to selling striker Cameron Archer amid interest from Leeds United and Sheffield United, according to the Athletic.

The news outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (23 August) that the Birmingham outfit need to comply with FFP and would thus be open to selling the 21-year-old and include a buy-back clause.

As the Englishman is an academy graduate the Villa Park side will receive pure bookable profit from his sale this summer.

Sheffield not acting quickly is just what Leeds need to enter talks with him and look to secure his services as soon as possible.

A buy-back clause is not the worst idea in the world as it eventually depends on the player whether or not he wants to return.

If Archer goes on to have a 20-goal+ season at Elland Road and guides Leeds back to the Premier League, even if Villa look to trigger the option to get him back, he can turn down a return to his boyhood club.

Leeds desperately need a new striker and it’s a shame that they did not bring in one before the new season began at the start of August.

Patrick Bamford has started the new season with the same injury issues and Joe Gelhardt has not really shown he deserves to start week in and week out.

It remains to be seen if Archer is willing to spend another year in the second tier when there is Premier League interest in him.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have now emerged as favourites to sign a Premier League player likened to Lionel Messi.
