Leeds United transfer news as Daniel Farke in immediate talks at Elland Road

Conversations are ongoing at Leeds United around possible transfers, with ideas presented to Daniel Farke on Wednesday night, according to Graham Smyth on the Inside Elland Road Podcast.

It was revealed during the podcast that talks had taken place between Farke and his recruitment staff surrounding possible transfer targets, with ideas being presented to the manager on Wednesday [5 July].

Farke has reportedly been in discussions with Leeds’ football consultant Nick Hammond, who has been handling transfer deals so far this summer, about what the club will need to bring in in the coming weeks, as he begins his first pre-season with the club.

The club will have to be smart

Leeds United will have to be smart with their movements in this transfer window, with a number of players expected to leave the club who will need to be adequately replaced, while also preparing the squad to be competitive in the Championship.

It has been seen before that clubs will be relegated from the Premier League, spend big with the expectation of bouncing straight back up, but fail in their task and end up with a number of players at the club who they can’t really afford.

Leeds must be careful not to fall into the trap of just bringing in names, and instead bring in players they know will fit in with their playing style and the demands of Championship football.

Burnley were the latest example of a side with a high budget that spent wisely, bringing in players from the EFL such as Scott Twine, while also utilising the loan market to secure deals for Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Michael Obafemi, and Nathan Tella.

If Leeds can be as smart in their transfer business as Burnley were a year ago, they could be in for an exciting season.
