Leeds United transfer news as Ben Godfrey update emerges at Everton

Everton have opened the door for Ben Godfrey to leave Goodison Park this January amid interest from Leeds United, according to i News.

The website reported that the Whites have registered an interest in the 26-year-old centre-back, with the Toffees expecting Godfrey and Michael Keane to depart this month.

It is understood that Everton have told Godfrey that is able to leave if the club receive an “acceptable” offer before the transfer window closes.

He needs this move

Considering Daniel Farke’s current centre-back situation, with Ethan Ampadu deputising in defence in recent weeks, Everton’s Godfrey is a must-need transfer before the window closes.

Despite his status at the club, Liam Cooper is becoming slightly more unreliable in his older years due to injury worries. Pascal Struijk has also been in and out of the side too much this season.

Joe Rodon is the one irreplaceable at the moment, who has created a rock-solid partnership with Struijk when fit and available. Godfrey would be an extremely useful reinforcement, and can play at full-back too.

Leeds United

The defender is understandably frustrated at Goodison Park, having been handed just one Premier League start this campaign. However, he could help Leeds achieve their goal of promotion back to the Premier League and that would give him a much-needed confidence boost.

Godfrey has proven his capabilities on the pitch but, for whatever reasons, it has not worked out under Sean Dyche, as he has continued to fall down the pecking order with Jarrad Branthwaite, James Tarkowski and Keane all preferred over him.
