Leeds United transfer news as £22m price tag set for Inter Milan ace Hakan Calhanoglu
Leeds United are eyeing up a transfer move for Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu with the Serie A club slapping a £22m price tag on the maestro, according to fichajes.net.
The midfielder’s contract comes to an end in June 2024 and the Serie A club may be tempted to sell the star this summer to avoid losing him for nothing.
The report claims that Leeds United aren’t the only team interested in Calhanoglu’s signature with Southampton also chasing the Turkish ace.

“Inter Milan have set the starting price for midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu at 25 million euros. The Turkish player’s contract ends in June 2024, but the Italian team may be willing to sell him before then due to the need to balance their accounts and not wanting to let him go for free,” as quoted by fichajes.net. (26 February)
“Leeds United and Southampton, among other clubs in England, have expressed interest in the signing of Calhanoglu.
“Leeds United and Southampton, for their part, seek to strengthen their squads for next season. Both teams have shown interest in signing Calhanoglu, who could be an important piece in any team’s midfield.”

Interesting.
The midfielder has been an important piece at Inter this season, with three goals and six assists in 30 games played in Serie A and the Champions League.
This experience could be a nice little upgrade to the Whites’ current engine room, although some departures would likely need to happen first.
£22m seems like more than a fair price for a player who is still at the peak of his powers and it’s a deal the Whites should definitely explore.
Leeds can even take advantage of the murky financial situation that is currently ongoing at Inter Milan and try to get that price slashed even more.
The Turk is one of Inter’s best players but with a need to balance the books the Italian giants will want to avoid losing him for free in 2024.
All in all, there are definitely areas within the Leeds squad that need improving more than the midfield but when a player of Calhanoglu’s calibre becomes available you have to pay attention.
