Leeds United transfer news: Announcement update emerges amid Sunderland interest in Leo Hjelde
Leeds United are expected to announce the sale of Leo Hjelde next who appears set to join Sunderland, according to Beren Cross.
According to the LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross on 29 January, the defender will be the next one out of the door for the Whites.
Darko Gyabi and Luke Ayling have both left in January on loan and permanent deals while Djed Spence has returned to Tottenham Hotspur and was then loaned out to Genoa.
Right move?
Hjelde is 20 and while his versatility is important, he does not still have the quality to break into the first team or even be a matchday-squad regular.
He was handed his first-team debut under Marcelo Bielsa amid a huge injury crisis and has since gone on to make eight senior appearances.
However, Daniel Farke, who’s watched him train and seen him play in pre season and in August, does not seem that he’s developed nearly as much for him to be part of his plans.
This season, the Norwegian defender has made just one Championship appearance and even in that game, played just 46 minutes.
He has not been seen since his last appearance for the first team in late August and rather than whiling his time away with the under-21s or making it to the matchday squad whenever there are injuries, it’s better for him to seal a move away too.

His sale will bring in funds and it remains to be seen if Leeds use it to bring someone else through the door this month.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that the Whites are seriously considering acceptable offers for one player with a new signing on the cards.
