Leeds United transfer news: Alan Nixon shares loan exit stance on Charlie Cresswell

There would have to be a “change of opinion” at Elland Road for Charlie Cresswell to be allowed to leave Leeds United on loan during the January transfer window, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported via his Twitter account on Monday (15 January) that the initial bids submitted to the Whites for the exit-linked player are too far away from Leeds’ valuation for there to even be a contest for his signature.

Despite the lack of bids matching the Whites’ valuation, a loan exit doesn’t appear to be any closer, with those in charge at Elland Road currently reluctant to allow the 21-year-old to depart on a temporary basis.

Discussing the deal, Nixon wrote: “Bid are too far off valuation to even make it a contest right now. [For a loan] Have to be a change of opinion at Leeds before end of the month…”

Leeds are understood to want around £4million for the centre-back during the January transfer window, with Millwall, Blackburn Rovers and a number of other Championship sides interested in securing his services before the end of the month [Alan Nixon, 14 January].

Change of opinion

It seems as though it will take £4million to sign Cresswell this month and unless that figure is paid it seems unlikely that the 21-year-old will be allowed to depart Elland Road to play first-team football for the second half of the campaign.

While it is a shame to see such a talented player almost out in the cold at Elland Road, Daniel Farke has been very insistent about the sort of charterer he wants in his Leeds United team this season and for whatever reason, Cresswell doesn’t fit that mould.

Leeds United

It would have made no sense for Leeds to have loaned him to a Championship rival for the second half of the campaign as it would have only harmed their chances of a top-six finish. They’ve already made that mistake once this season with Sam Greenwood’s switch to Middlesbrough.

Whether any Championship side will be willing to match the Whites’ £4million valuation remains to be seen, but at the moment it doesn’t seem anyone is particularly keen to fork out that sort of cash. As the end of the window closes in, one side may be willing to find some sort of wiggle room.
