Leeds United transfer news: £21million-plus Luis Sinisterra deal now in the works amid Bournemouth talks as timeframe emerges

Luis Sinisterra exit talks are in progress between Leeds United and Bournemouth for a deal that is likely to go past the transfer deadline, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported for the paper’s website on 1 February that the Colombian’s move doesn’t need to be done on Deadline Day because he is already on loan at the Vitality Stadium.

A transfer is expected to cost in excess of the £20million and could now be completed “over the course of the next week”.

He already had a permanent option in his loan contract but it was only set to be activated if Leeds United failed to get promoted to the Premier League.

Sinisterra left for the Cherries after the summer window had shut, in a two-way move late on the previous Deadline Day that saw Jaidon Anthony come the other way on loan.

On his way

It always looked difficult for the 24-year-old to return to Elland Road given the controversy of his original loan move but it seemed more likely that the situation would be wrapped up in the summer.

If Leeds United can bank a significant fee, that could see them make an early profit after one season playing for the club, it could give them more scope to make an early run-up to the next transfer window.

That will depend on them getting clarity on which division they are in next term so a push into the automatic promotion spots will be needed.

The Colombian’s 11th-hour exit earlier this season has proven not to be a major problem for Daniel Farke given the sparkling form of Crysencio Summerville and Dan James in the Championship.

That has helped largely keep Anthony and Willy Gnonto on the bench so a decent eight-figure fee on top of that situation for a player who may not be in the club’s plans anyway seems like a positive development.

The slew of loan moves in the summer were deeply unpopular with the supporters but rationalised by Angus Kinnear by the hope for better value permanent deals to subsequently be possible.

So it would appear this fits into that plan, even if it is surprising that Andoni Iraola is so eager after giving Sinisterra just three Premier League starts.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are on the brink of bringing a player in to join the manager’s squad before the deadline as a medical update emerges via Phil Hay.
