Leeds United: Tom Cleverley drops ‘league’s best’ verdict on Crysencio Summerville v Watford

Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville is currently the best player in the Championship, having netted a beautiful effort against Watford on Friday (29 March).

That is according to the Hornets boss Tom Cleverley, who was extremely proud of his team’s performance during the 2-2 draw, but admitted it was difficult to hold out against the Whites with the Dutchman on the pitch.

Summerville cut onto his right foot from the left flank, curling the ball past Daniel Bachmann for the Leeds ace’s 16th Championship goal of the season.

Speaking after the match, Adam Pope quoted Cleverley as saying: “We were the best side for 65 mins. I’m very proud of them. Brave in possession…. Playing with that much intensity, it’s hard to hold on against a side like Leeds United, who have the league’s best player in Summerville.”

Is Leeds United ace Crysencio Summerville the best player in the Championship?

After the spectacular effort against Watford on Friday night, it can certainly be argued that the 22-year-old is the best player in the Championship this season.

Daniel Farke’s current squad is filled to the brim with exciting, young talents, with Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter, Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev all impressing at Elland Road.

His French teammate, Rutter, is definitely in contention for the same award but was not up to his usual best at Vicarage Road, having only just returned from a hernia surgery over the international break.

With only Sammie Szmodics, Morgan Whittaker and Adam Armstong ahead of the star in terms of goals, Summerville is experiencing a blinder of a season for the Whites and might just shoot Leeds back to the Premier League.

In addition to this, the winger’s eight assists do not put him too far down the Championship playmaker list, though Rutter could finish the season with a brand-new record.

Few players can pull off what Summerville did against Watford, though. He almost seemed to know the shot was goal-bound before hitting it, wheeling off in celebration before the net bulged.
