Leeds United told what to do with Daniel Farke as pundit accused of orchestrating sack campaign
David Healy has come to the defence of Daniel Farke at Leeds United and insists the manager must be given “plenty” of time in the job yet.
Farke is coming under increasing sack pressure at Leeds after a pair of damaging November defeats which left the club just a point outside the bottom three.
Leeds went to Brighton on the first of the month and lost 3-0, then Farke’s side travelled to Nottingham Forest and suffered a very similar defeat the following week.
But ex-Whites striker Healy believes it would be more than hasty to get rid of the German at this stage and pointed to attacking players finding stronger form as the key.

David Healy points finger at Jamie O’Hara for Farke sack
Interviewed by Adrian Durham and Ray Parlour live on talkSPORT regarding his thoughts on the situation at Elland Road the Northern-Irishman suggested it was the host of another show on the station, Jamie O’Hara, who had turned the heat onto Farke from the start of the season.
He said: “I do think Daniel needs to be given certainly plenty of time. He’s done an incredible job there. Coming into it from the outset I think it was actually Jamie O’Hara who started something online at the start of the season, started putting pressure on Daniel Farke because of his previous record…
“I think he was trying to start a campaign at the start of the season regarding ‘Daniel Farke’s coming under pressure because he hasn’t done it in the Premier League’ and whatever else.
“And then I hear somebody like Neil Warnock saying he’s never really been given the tools or the money to go and perform to give himself the best chance to stay in the Premier League.
“By all accounts, and I don’t know all the ins and outs, Daniel looks like he’s a top class coach, manager. He’s doing the best with the resources that he has. There’s been one or two injuries at the start of the season.
“They need a [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin, a Jack Harrison, Dan James, or [Joel] Piroe, they need one of those centre-forward attacking players to catch fire and score goals.”
Paraag Marathe needs to make a new statement
Rightly or wrongly Farke has been a couple of bad results away from this sort of situation even since Leeds bosses flew in to discuss the manager’s future just as he was securing the Championship title last term.
It is hard to escape the conclusion that 49ers Enterprises ultimately want to replace Farke as Leeds manager, but decided against pulling the trigger at a moment of such celebration in the spring.
| Games | Wins | Losses | Draws | Goals for | Goals against |
| 11 | 3 | 2 | 6 | 10 | 20 |
In the end Paraag Marathe came out and issued a public statement of commitment to the German, and he may need to do that again in the near future if he isn’t going to bite the bullet a make a change.
If it weren’t for Sunderland defying all expectations this season then the pressure likely wouldn’t be so great on Farke, and in the context of recent years it would probably be seen as a qualified success if he kept Leeds United just outside the relegation zone all season.
Of course fans would prefer to take the top flight by storm like they once did under Marcelo Bielsa, but it is rare for that to happen and even the great Argentine couldn’t keep that up the following year.
