Leeds United told to stay at Elland Road as Sky Sports pundit rubbishes idea of move away from area to build new stadium

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson has suggested it’s “very important” that Leeds United stay at Elland Road after stadium development plans emerged.

The Daily Mail reported on 12 May, that the 49ers could be set to invest £100million into the club’s infrastructure, taking Elland Road’s capacity over 60,000.

Robinson feels that investment into the stadium is required and has urged the club to remain on the same site.

“Investment in Elland Road has been needed for a number of years,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“It’s a fantastic old nostalgic stadium and it’s very important that it’s kept on the same site. But redevelopment and rejuvenation are needed everywhere within the stadium.

“Underneath, into the skeleton, the corporate lounges, the boxes have all been done to a Premier League standard, but the stadium needs modernising. It needs extending.

“However, all of this is hypothetical, because there’s absolutely no way the club can afford or will go into any expansion talk and make the stadium bigger and better if they are in the Championship, it’s just not financially viable.”

At present, the 49ers are set to take control of the club in January 2024, however, it’s widely acknowledged that the takeover could be fast-tracked depending on the club’s league status.

In other Leeds United news, our exclusive pundit has demanded an internal investigation takes place at the club.
