Phil Hay: Leeds United to wrap up transfer terms for Max Wober at Elland Road
Leeds United are ready to wrap up terms for the transfer of RB Salzburg defender Max Wober, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.
Wober has been linked with a move to Elland Road for weeks now and it seems a deal is finally about to be completed in the coming days.
Hay confessed that Wober is “on course” to complete his transfer to Leeds United, where he will provide options for the Whites in their left-back and centre-back positions.
“Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Max Wober with the Red Bull Salzburg defender in line to become their first arrival of the January transfer window,” said Hay as quoted by The Athletic.
“Wober, 24, is on course to complete a move to Elland Road after Salzburg decided to listen to offers for their club captain.
“Leeds want Wober, who is regarded as a left-sided centre-back but has been Salzburg’s left-back in the Austrian Bundesliga this season, to provide competition in both of those positions.”
Wober has represented Austria at various youth levels and made his senior international debut in 2018.
At just 24-years-old he has since become a regular member of the national team and has played in both the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup.
He is known for his strong defensive skills and aerial ability, as well as his passing range and ability to build attacks from the back.
The defender has also been praised for his leadership and consistency on the pitch, something that Marsch will be able to utilise in his Leeds United backline.
With luck, Wober will be able to become the go-to man for the Whites in the left-back position, something which has been an area for concern for some time now.
The signing of Wober will likely allow Pascal Struijk to move back to his favoured central defensive position, despite putting in a solid showing filling in at left-back.
