Leeds United to unveil new signing Georginio Rutter in front of fans at Elland Road v Cardiff
Leeds United are set to unveil club-record signing Georginio Rutter ahead of their FA Cup replay against Cardiff at Elland Road, according to the Daily Mail.
The Whites completed the signing of the 20-year-old forward on Saturday (14 January) for a reported fee of £35.5million after an agreement was reached with Hoffenheim (Sky Sports, 15 January).
The Daily Mail have since suggested (18 January) the French under-21 international will be introduced to the fans ahead of the replay against the Bluebirds. Rutter won’t be making his debut against Cardiff due to him not featuring in the initial 2-2 draw in South Wales.
However, he is in line to make his debut in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Brentford at Elland Road (22 January).
Rutter has only scored twice and registered two assists during the 2022/23 campaign, however, he heads to Elland Road with a lot of pressure on his shoulders. Leeds have decided to break their club record, and for many, an immediate impact will be expected.
The 20-year-old is a versatile forward who’s supposedly impressive with the ball at his feet and has a good eye for goal. The Premier League can be an unforgiving place for foreign exports to get used to their surroundings, and it could well take a couple of weeks for the forward to really get up to speed.
Jesse Marsch will be desperate for Rutter to make an immediate impact and justify the large sum of money the board have spent. A forward was what the American was after and there is now nowhere for Marsch to hide when it comes to the team’s performances on the pitch.
The weekend clash against Brentford is shaping up to be another huge test of his side.
In other Leeds United news, a group of senior players have gone to the board amid concerns about Jesse Marsch’s leadership of the team.
