Leeds United to sign Weston McKennie permanently surely on the cards after ‘fantastic’ April development

Leeds United secured a vital three points on Tuesday evening as goals from Jack Harrison and Luis Sinisterra saw the Whites beat Nottingham Forest 2-1.

There were a number of standout performances at Elland Road with Javi Gracia’s side running out worthy winners. Weston McKennie produced his best display since moving to the club and Victor Orta will surely be desperate to make the American’s loan move permanent.

Leeds have the option to sign the midfielder in the summer for £30million (Sky Sports, 30 January) if certain criteria are met. The 24-year-old has taken time to adjust to life in West Yorkshire but was arguably the best player on the pitch against Steve Cooper’s side (5 April).

Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson continually praised the “fantastic” American whilst on commentary for the Premier League’s World Feed (Premier League World Feed coverage, 20:01, 4 April), and his eye-catching display has given the Elland Road faithful a taste of what he can potentially produce.

The Whites are certainly in a healthier league position at present and will be looking to ensure their Premier League status is secured as early as possible.

Orta and the board will be planning ahead to the summer window, but due to Leeds being engulfed in a battle to avoid the drop, it’s hard for effective preparation to be put in place.

If the impressive form under Gracia continues, ensuring McKennie’s move is made permanent is an absolute must. The American could well prove to be a remarkable piece of business.
