Leeds United to miss out on defender - not a problem for Bielsa

Marcelo Bielsa’s transfer plans could be set to receive a blow as Leeds United look set to lose the race for Fleetwood Town defender James Hill.

Leeds had targeted Hill as a potential new addition but Bournemouth of the Championship are looking in good shape to sign the highly-rated 20-year-old in this transfer window, According to DorestLive,

Hill’s contract with the Cod Army expires at the end of this season which attracted clubs to the prospect but the club has opted to sell now with the Cherries set to spend £1million.

But there shouldn’t be any disappointment in Hill going elsewhere. it’s time to forget the deal and move on.

A young, English player who is rated highly always attracts interest from clubs across the country and Hill is no different.

The list of clubs that have considered Hill includes Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and even Barcelona in Spain.

But the signing, or non-signing as it is now, of Hill won’t have any effect on Leeds United right now.

He was never going to waltz into Elland Road and command a starting place from the get-go so losing the race to sign him to Bournemouth isn’t something Leeds fans will lose sleep over.

The Whites need players who can perform right now to ensure they maintain their Premier League status for another season.

And even though an eye to the future always has to be a focus, Leeds cannot afford to sacrifice the present.

All focus in January should be on signing players that can have a positive impact on the first team from the moment they arrive.

Bielsa already has his young future star through the door this window with the arrival of Mateo Joseph Fernandez, he doesn’t need another.

In other Leeds United news, Kalvin Phillips is being admired by another Premier League club.
