Leeds United to make new signings in January to earn automatic promotion

Carlton Palmer believes that Leeds United will earn automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.

The Whites have been in decent form thus far and find themselves in fourth place, just four adrift from league leaders, Sunderland.

Leeds are still unbeaten in the Championship and are miles away from the dreadful start that cost them so dearly last season at Elland Road.

Speaking to Football League World (9 September) Palmer doubled down on his automatic promotion verdict and believes the Whites could strengthen again in January.

“I fancied Leeds United and Luton Town to get automatic promotion, but Luton are sat second from bottom in the table right now,” he said.

“I certainly didn’t see that happening, three defeats in their first four games, but there is still a long way to go in the season.

“Leeds [have had] so many upheavals and especially late on in the transfer window, and they’re in a play-off position so I’m not going to change my view on that.

“I think Leeds are going to grow stronger, Burnley will be strong and so will Sheffield United, because all of those clubs have the power, come January, to go and reinvest in their squad.”

Leeds United to go again in January transfer window

There’s no denying that Leeds’ squad is one of, if not the strongest in the Championship.

Although the club currently lies in fourth place, their opening fixtures have been somewhat difficult.

When the 2024/25 season got underway, Leeds were without the likes of Crysencio Summerville after his exit, with Georginio Rutter shortly after leaving too.

After the transfer window slammed shut on 30 August, the likes of Ao Tanaka and Manor Solomon arrived at Elland Road to help bolster their promotion chances.

As per usual with Leeds, they chose to leave their most important transfers until the dying embers of the window which left supporters questioning whether they had enough depth within their ranks to make a charge for Premier League promotion.

Daniel Farke’s squad now has plenty of depth and quality within it to push for the title, as long as they play to their strengths, that is.

Only time will tell if the Whites manage to get Premier League promotion, but, one thing is certain, if they fail to once again, their 2024/25 campaign will be a massive failure.
