Leeds United ‘to make eight new signings’ as £60m reveal emerges before promotion

Leeds United are primed for a busy summer transfer window after securing promotion to the Premier League.

Elland Road erupted into celebrations on Easter Monday (21 April) after Sheffield United’s 2-1 defeat against Burnley confirmed their promotion to the Premier League.

The party had begun hours before the final whistle at Turf Moor, as a four-goal haul from Joel Piroe fired Leeds to a thumping 6-0 victory over Stoke City in LS11.

Daniel Farke has, thus, clinched promotion with two more games left to play, meaning the Whites can already look forward to next season.

Leeds United are back in the Premier League.

Leeds United ready eight new signings

While a return to the Premier League is exciting, there is no denying that Leeds United need to significantly strengthen their ranks to avoid Southampton and Leicester’s fate.

Assessing the Peacocks’ squad, Adam Pope insisted that Dan James, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu are equipped to step up to the top flight, with Ao Tanaka, Jayden Bogle and Wilfried Gnonto also showing promise.

The BBC journalist also backed Joel Piroe to cope with the challenges of the Premier League before mooting the possibility of making Manor Solomon’s loan move from Tottenham permanent.

However, he claimed that Leeds may have to make at least eight new additions to their squad this summer.

“Of the current squad, Dan James, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu look capable of coping with the step up, and there is an argument to suggest Ao Tanaka, Jayden Bogle and Willy Gnonto could follow suit”, Pope wrote on the BBC website (22 April, 10:48 am).

“The latter pair have 74 appearances between them in the Premier League already.

“Joel Piroe, who is the Championship’s leading scorer with 19 goals, has the quality to finish at the top level, if not the pace required.

“It will be interesting to see if the club make a permanent move for winger Manor Solomon because at times the Spurs loanee has looked a huge cut above his Championship opponents.

“But as many as eight players may be required throughout the spine of the team.”

Although there have been doubts about Leeds United’s finances after they posted a loss of £60million in the last fiscal year, Pope has provided assurances about their situation.

He explained that the West Yorkshire outfit are in a strong position to spend money this summer, with their revenues set to increase ‘exponentially’.

“Financially, Leeds are in as solid a position as I can recall, despite recording a £60m loss for the year to June 30th 2024”, Pope wrote.

“They return to the top-flight whilst in receipt of parachute payments and have stayed within PSR.

“Broadcast revenues will now grow exponentially and commercial and matchday income will inevitably increase.”

Paraag Marathe to back Farke with transfers

Paraag Marathe recently claimed that the Leeds United ownership is determined to put every pound they earn back into the club.

That means the Elland Road outfit will have significantly more money to spend in the wake of their promotion.

There have been suggestions that Leeds could fork out over £100m on new signings this summer.
